BIS: Luke Holmes Black U/5

Judge Gary Clark writes: 'An honour once again to judge the Dutch Southern Area Show at Real London. There were 33 entries with a nice selection of colours on display.

The adult Red boar class was won by a very nice exhibit shown by Heale & Davies, a very fit typey pig.

The best adult AC was a very nice Chocolate Agouti sow shown by Sarah Bennett. This was a very nice pig, even cheeks, nice saddle and under with nice stops, this pig was only let down by a slight lack of richness in the ticking of her coat, but well deserved her place with a 2nd place in the Grand Challenge.

The 5-8 section was won by a very nice Chocolate boar shown by Heale & Davies, nice cheeks, very good high saddle with a slight dip under and balanced toe stops. This pig received a very well deserved 3rd place in the Grand Challenge.

The U/5 section had some very good pigs, notably a lovely Red boar which came 2nd in the AC Challenge shown by Sarah Bennett, very well balanced, nice high saddle, and good colour. 3rd was a nice Chocolate sow shown by Heale & Davies, another well balanced pig, but heavy cheeks slightly spoilt the appearance.

The 1st placed AC U/5 and Grand Chall winner was a beautiful Black sow shown by Luke Holmes. This was a very small pig and gave me the biggest headache I have ever had in judging. The markings on this little pig are some of the best I have ever seen on a Dutch marked pig. The cheeks were well balanced and rounded which made for a lovely shaped blaze. The saddle cuts the pig very neatly in half and the stops are perfectly set central between the toes and the hock and are a near perfect match. This pig has a very good future.

Congratulations to the Junior exhibitors. 1st place went to Daisy Broad with her 5-8 Chocolate boar. 2nd was Abigail Bell and 3rd was Tegan Hogan.

My thanks to all who run the Real London so smoothly and the lovely lunch was perfect. My judges name badge I shall keep forever. Thanks to Madelaine and Sarah for stewarding and Kaye my book steward.
